Artist Bio
Mary McGee is a New York City based contemporary artist whose work primarily explores the intersections of sexuality, femininity, and religion. Growing up in a Catholic household, she navigates the tension between guilt and pride in her sexuality. Mary’s vibrant, whimsical, and figurative paintings challenge traditional narratives while celebrating self-expression and bodily autonomy. Her work also reflects an ongoing exploration of love and intimacy through the lens of emotional intensity and internal dualities, drawing from personal experiences with mental health to convey contradiction, longing, and vulnerability. Through bold color and playful yet thoughtful imagery, she creates a body of work that questions, reclaims, and reimagines the forces shaping identity and belief.
